Shred the Word Program Calendar
Shredding

The New York State Consumer Protection Board (CPB) kicks off its third season of Shred the Word events. The CPB's Shred the Word program brings together local businesses to provide free shredding services for consumers and community activists. The shredded material is later recycled and processed into paper products, which is beneficial to consumers and the environment. Cross shredding documents containing personally identifying information is one of the best defenses against identity theft. Since the program was launched in 2008, more than 17 tons of documents have been shredded and later recycled.

Community partners and shredding companies interested in hosting a free Shred the Word event should contact the CPB for more information. The CPB encourages localities to hold their own free shredding events, which will be added to the Shred the Word calendar if alerted in a timely manner.
